  What is LaStone Therapy?
LaStone therapy was developed by Mary Nelson in Tucson, Arizona in 1993. Its roots are in Native  American traditions and beliefs.

LaStone therapy builds on a principal that has been used for centuries, that of applying  geothermotherapy, to release a chemical change within the systems of the body, and thus balancing our  bodies physically, mentally and spiritually.

By combining the principals of massage and the use of stones and alternating temperatures, a unique, but powerful, treatment has been devised.

Many other stone therapies mimic LaStone therapy, but LaStone therapy is the original hot and cold  massage.
    Defining LaStone Therapy
LaStone therapy reflects and aims to create balance and harmony on all levels,  effecting chemical, physical and spiritual healing within the mind, body and spirit.

By using the principals of geothermotherapy, that is, the practice of applying alternating heated and chilled stones, balance can be restored to the body.

Stone Sole Connection, which is the treatment I practice, takes the principals of  reflexology (a complimentary therapy which works mainly on the feet) and applies the principals of geothermotherapy to the body. Stones are used for working on the body and for placement both on and under the body throughout the treatment.
What can I use LaStone Therapy for?
Although a relatively new practice, LaStone therapy can be used to treat a wide variety of ailments and  problems. These include all areas of the body and may well help such problems as arthritis, back and neck  pain, asthma, bowel difficulties, circulatory problems, menstrual and menopausal problems, headaches,  migraines and sinus congestion.
Is it suitable for me?
As with reflexology, LaStone therapy is suitable for almost everyone. The only difference between Stone Sole Connection and a normal reflexology treatment is the factor of applying heated and chilled stones to the body. As long as your therapist is aware of any problems you may have, the temperature of the stones  can be adjusted accordingly, as some problems may require more or less heat.

As with reflexology, it is adviseable not to have a LaStone treatment during the first 3 months of   pregnancy. Lower temperatures and less pressure are recommended for the older person. The time limit for
a treatment of a child is reduced, as is the temperature.

If you are in any doubt as to whether this treatment is suitable for you, a qualified LaStone therapist will be  able to advise you of specific suitability as long as they are made aware of any conditions you may have.

It is recommended that you drink plenty of water prior to a LaStone treatment in preparing the  body to remove toxins and increase blood flow, due to the alternating temperatures involved.
Are there any side effects?
For up to 72 hours after a treatment, the body may continue to respond to a LaStone treatment, as the  body tries to heal itself. The reactions which may occur are similar to those of a reflexology treatment.

These may include the need to pass water more frequently, increased activity of the bowels, 'cold like' symptoms, temporary effect on sleeping patterns and increased emotional awareness (e.g. crying). These conditions are all temporary (and may, or may not, occur) and should pass quickly. After all, the body will be ridding itself of unwanted toxins, which may have been building up for a while, and therefore releasing them is for the better in the long run.

It should by no means put you off from taking a treatment. If you receive a treatment, expect the unexpected! Many people have been pleasantly surprised as to the reactions they have experienced. Above all else, you will feel relaxed and at peace, on both a physical and spiritual level as you take this treatment.....
Scientifically, and medically, the results of using alternating temperatures on the body have proven physiological benefits.
